The Ragdoll is the second largest cat breed in the world, right after the Maine Coon. It is a semi-longhaired breed and is classed as a medium to large breed. The body should give a powerful, substantial impression. Females weigh 4–7 kg, males 7–10 kg, and males can reach up to one metre in length.
It is a large, muscular cat with strong bones and a full chest. The coat is longest around the neck and shortest on the head. It is very dense, silky soft and does not tend to mat. Kittens are usually born completely white and start to show their colour after a few weeks. The coat colour only fully develops at about four years of age, when their physical development is also complete.
The head is wedge-shaped with a firm, strong chin. The large oval eyes should be blue – the darker, the better. The medium-sized ears are set wide apart and slightly rounded rather than pointed. The nose is slightly curved. The neck is usually short and strong and, together with the long coat, flows smoothly into the chest.
The front legs are slightly shorter than the hind legs, so the back end rises slightly. The large paws are round, with tufts of fur growing between the toes. Ragdolls have a medium-long, bushy tail.
